I teach courses in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UTSA for engineering students and students in the interdisciplinary Environmental Science and Engineering PhD program.

Environmental Engineering (CE 2633)

An introduction to the field of environmental engineering, targeted at sophomores in civil engineering

Principles, analysis, and design related to environmental monitoring, protection, and remediation systems. Topics include environmental quality and legislation, modeling, water treatment, wastewater treatment, solid and hazardous waste management, air and noise pollution, and radioactive waste management.
49-61 undergraduate students; 3 semester credit hour (SCH)
Taught Spring 2022, Spring 2023, Spring 2024, Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Spring 2026

Environmental Chemistry (CE 4613/5613)

Open to graduate students or upper division undergraduates across the

College of Engineering and Integrated Design

This course explores the chemistry of the environment, the chemistry underlying environmental problems and solutions to environmental problems. Emphasis is placed on thermodynamics and kinetics of reaction cycles; sources, sinks and transport of chemical species; and quantitation of chemical species. Examples are selected from the chemistry of natural and contaminated air, water, and soil.
7-12 students; 3 SCH
Taught Spring 2021, Fall 2022, Fall 2024

Air Pollution (CE 6613)

Open to graduate students or upper division undergraduates across the

College of Engineering and Integrated Design

This course will discuss the sources and consequences of air pollution and solutions for it. It will cover conventional pollutants and greenhouse gases alongside physical and chemical treatment methods. It will also cover atmospheric chemistry and dispersion processes. Pollution from mobile and stationary sources will be investigated. The course will primarily consider ambient air quality, but indoor air will also be discussed.
6-10 graduate students; 3 SCH
Taught Fall 2021, Fall 2023, Fall 2025

Introduction to Civil Engineering (CE 1301)

A one-credit course introducing students to UTSA and the field of civil
          engineering

Engineering as a career, engineering ethics, and approaches to engineering problem formulation and solution using principles of design and decision making.
50-100 students; 1 SCH

Taught Fall 2023, Spring 2024, Fall 2025, Spring 2026

Graduate Seminar (CE 6621/ES 5981)

A one-credit course supporting a seminar series in which experts in the field present research on a variety of topics.

Includes presentations of current research by faculty and invited guests who are experts in various aspects of research.
31 students; 1 SCH
Taught Spring 2024, Spring 2026
